THE GIFT OF UTILITY

The holidays seem to be the busiest time of the year. Between tree shopping, untangling lights, and wrapping gifts, it’s hard to spend quality time with your loved ones.

And if you’ve ever met my husband Miguel, he’s not really into gifts, (or X-mas shopping for that matter). He is one of those utilitarian guys, who only shops when in dire need. So, when I posted this year’s Holiday Gift Guide he was my biggest critic!  A few days later, he finally confessed to wanting, I mean “needing” a new grill. Needless to say my main stomping grounds were not the place to look for this year’s present.

Say hello to Sears and Kmart’s free in-store pickup – where I shopped online in the comfort of my own home. Oh and my items were available for pick up at the store within 5 minutes of placing my order. With in-store pickup I avoided lines, busy stores and wasted no time looking for parking. The bow on top: You can have a friend pick up your order to throw the hubby off your trail.

KMART SEARS

So, now that I have all this extra time in my hands, what will I do?

Here are a few ideas: Plan an ugly sweater christmas party, help a friend find that New Year’s outfit she’s been talking about, or just spend some time with the ones I love.

For more details on the offers I mentioned be sure to visit Kmart.com and Sears.com. Right now they are offering $10 back in points when you spend $59.

(The ONLINE portion of the event is from Saturday 12/7/13 starting at 6pm CT through Tuesday 12/10/13 at 9am  CT. The IN-STORE event is on Sunday, 12/8/13 ONLY.)

Happy holidays!

What should I buy? How much do I spend? What if he/she doesn’t like it? Oh, boy!

The Holidays are upon us and though to some the gift of giving can bring great joy, to others it can also brings quite a bit of stress. Well fret not, Flair Miami is here to help!

Below is a quick little gift guide for both her and him. You decide what you think is appropriate to spend, but all the gifts below are $50 or less. We won’t tell if you won’t. ;)

Happy shopping and may your holidays be filled with love and laughter.

OH SWEET HONEY BUN!

Thanksgiving has come and gone, but Black Friday is in full effect. Though there are definitely a few great sales out there, I must say, I’m not really a big fan of shopping when everyone and their grandma is out bargain hunting as well. So instead, I wanted to share with you a little taste of Miami’s (well Homestead’s technically) best honey buns, and a few things for which I am thankful.

If you’re not quite done with the “gobble till you wobble” Thanksgiving theme and you’ve got still got a sweet tooth, head on over to Knauss Berry Farm. There you’ll find the best honey buns and milk shakes around town! Be prepared for a line as the farm only opens November – mid April, so this is prime time.

I’m not even a huge sweets fan, but their honey buns are right out of the oven and quite scrumptious!

pensive truckThe whole experience there is just fun and different, it reminds me that I love this time of year! Temperature drops, families come together, and it’s time to reflect on the blessings that surround you.

So, here are mine: (Warning, this may get a little sappy.)

  • Family: I truly cannot even begin to express how blessed I am with the wonderful family that surrounds me. From my hard-working single mom who raised me to be the woman that I am today; to my awesome husband who puts up with my craziness every day. Yesterday, the walls of my little home echoed with laughter, kids screaming, voices singing, and moms chatting… It filled my heart with joy. Thank you God for every one of them!
  • Life/Health: I know it seems a little general for me to be thankful for life as a whole, but I am! The very air that fills my lungs today is a gift that I cannot take for granted, and though my life isn’t always filled with rainbows and butterflies… I’m even thankful for the hard times in between.
  • Friends: Life is so much sweeter when moments of joy are shared with friends! So in the spirit of thanksgiving, I’m not only thankful for friends that I personally know and do life with, I’m also thankful for those of you who I’ve known in the past and others who I’ve yet to meet. Blogging and social media has really brought this whole friendship thing to a whole new level, and I like it! I love that even in the blogging world there’s a little community of people who collaborate and build each other up. I love that YOU have helped me grow, and that through YOU a silly little blog idea became an accomplishment. So with a grateful heart to YOU I give thanks!01-DSC_0017

Maybe I’m getting a little bit ahead of myself but, is it Christmas yet? Because I’ve already made a wish list! ;)

I woke up with a horrible migraine today, and after a long nap and a few pain killers, I did what any girl does on a rainy yucky day, watched a chick flick and shopped online!

After all, I’ve had quite a few crazy weeks, so I feel like my body was just telling me to just lay low. And well, I listened… a little. I slept in till like 11 a.m, then I woke up: did laundry, cooked, cleaned out my closet and donated clothes and a few pairs of shoes.

Well, since I’ve created a little extra space in my closet, here are a few items I’ll be on the hunt for…

I don’t know about you, but doesn’t if feel like this year has completely flown by?

Does anyone ever have time for rest and relaxation anymore? Before you know it, it’s Halloween, Thanksgiving, then Christmas… Then hello New Year, yikes!

Well, in the midst of this non-stop, on-the-go life of mine, I’ve had a few people ask me all sorts of beauty questions lately. From: What hair product I use, to what mascara I recommend? Thus, today’s post.

Here are a few of my current beauty favorites…

5 beauty

  1. Smashbox–  Limitless Longwear Lipgloss – boundless: Oh the magic of gloss… It gives that effortless look with just the right amount of color and shine, great for both day and night!
  2. Bobbi Brown – Lash Glamour Lengthening Mascara: Perfectly separated long  lashes are hard to come by, but with this olive-derived, Vitamin B mascara I can be smudge-free all day long!
  3. Deva Curl – Light Defining Gel: This product is probably my best friend, not only does it help me avoid frizz, but it also defines my curls by locking in the good moisture and keeping out the bad. I don’t leave my house without this puppy! It’s part of my curly hair regimen.
  4. essie – blue rhapsody: Regardless of how busy you are, every girl needs a good mani and pedi — and this pop of blue metallic feels like a fun jazz song unveiling before me, shiny yet matte with a mix of cool  and sheen.
  5. Resvology – Age Corrective Eye Cream: Who says we can’t turn back time or at least slow it down? This lightweight, hydrating eye cream minimizes lines and wrinkles, as it firms, tightens and refines your eyes. Oh and did I mention it’s paraben and sulfate free? Yup, I’m a fan!

There you have it! Those are my little go-to beauty weapons for long work days. What are some of yours?

Hello, my name is Vannia and I have a woman crush…. Ahhhh, there, I said it!

Her  name is Olivia Palermo, and I’m pretty sure tons of other fashionistas also love this chic little lady. I pretty much spy on her on a weekly basis via all social media outlets, InstagramTwitter, you name it! Not only do I find this New York socialite absolutely stunning, but her style is always on point. And of course, her oh so handsome boyfriend makes a great accessory. ;) (Do I sound like a total nutso yet?)

Well, for Flair Miami’s first celebrity inspired post, I just had to feature Ms. Palermo, here she is wearing the white on white trend with pops of polka dots.

Did you know that here in America, 1 out of 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer this year? And just this year alone (2013), over 39,000 women lost their lives battling breast cancer? Ready to combine our powers and tackle this battle? Here’s how you can help…

Over 30 South Florida Fashion & Beauty Bloggers have joined forces for the month of October to raise funds for breast cancer.

For this year’s Fashion for a Cause Campaign, bloggers teamed up with Miami brand Peace Love World, we modeled and styled their new breast cancer collection to raise proceeds for Susan G. Komen For The Cure Foundation. Our goal is to raise funds, honor & encourage all the strong women fighting against breast cancer– because “where there is hope, there is life.”

FOR HIM: OLIBERTE

As I write today’s post, I can’t help but be grateful for all my readers. I know often times I tend to neglect my male audience, (especially with fashion posts) sorry fellas! But fear not, I know you’re out there. Miguel (my biggest fan, and husband, whom you’ll get to meet today) always reminds me of the fact that this is not a gender specific blog and that I have quite a few male followers. Therefore, in honor of all my loyal fellas, this fashion post is for you!

Allow me to introduce to you Oliberté! This manufacturing footwear company is located  in  the heart of Africa: Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Perhaps, you’re wondering why I’m writing about shoes in Africa… In fact, we don’t normally hear about Africa unless it’s about something devastating. For the most part all we hear is about its poverty and/or corruption.

Young Canadian entrepreneur, Tal Dehliar said, “we never have and still don’t see an Africa that’s categorized by negative generalizations. Oliberté believes that with the right partners, each country within Africa has the means and power to grow and support its people. So that’s what we do.”

The brand partners with fair trade factories, suppliers, farmers and workers to produce premium footwear.

Oliberte Brown Shoes

In doing so, they support a growing middle class and create thousands of fair trade jobs for both men and women. The shoes are made from natural rubber crepe soles, breathable hand-picked leather, reverse backing, and reinforcement stitching. I loved them, not only were they stylish but also very well crafted.

And it’s not just about charity. The company believes in their product, the people and the country! Want to help make a difference in Africa? You can shop at one of their locations or purchase a pair online.
