I love dresses, in fact I am so excited that spring is here – because all I want are dresses and more dresses!

The great part of wearing a dress is that with one simple piece, you are dressed and ready to go! My go-to look for this season are all things dresses… Maxi dresses, fun little mini/midi dresses – did I mention dresses and more dresses!?!

Okay, okay, I may also incorporate fun shorts into the mix, but I love the fact that you can wear a cute dress just about anywhere, from a lunch date with the girls, or a date night with the Mr.

On this specific occasion, I happen to wear this cheery maxi for a girl’s lunch at Morton’s The Steakhouse. But now that I think of it, I’ve actually also worn this dress to a morning wedding. See what I mean, you can never go wrong with a cute dress!

TREND TO TRY: GRID PRINT

Spring has sprung and that means it’s time to say goodbye plaid and helloooooo windowpane, because this season’s trend to try – grid print!

Call it what you call it – windowpane or grid, this clean stripe and tartan hybrid is all the rage. I am definitely a fan!

You can spot it just about anywhere, from Rodarte, Derek Lam, and Christian Dior; to Express and Forever 21. The print is not only a great piece to have for a day-to-night look, but I love that it feels slightly nostalgic with a fun 60’s vibe.

In fact, the trend isn’t all that new, it started popping up just before Fall. But I think it will have a longer shelf life than expected, dare I say it will stay on the grid for quite sometime? ;)

Not sure how to wear it? For a minimalist mod-look, pair it with a white, black or neutral architectural fitting piece. For a bold look, I double dare you to pair it with another windowpane pattern. Feel free to play with colors and sizes.

For today’s look, I decided to keep it simple and pair my (super cute and super cheap) shorts with a pop of color and a denim jacket.

DENIM DAYS

I am almost certain that you own at least two or more staple denim pieces in your wardrobe. Well, don’t put them away just yet, because the denim days are here to stay.

From high-profile glossies, to NYFW runways, the trend is still a favorite among many celebs and style-trendsetters.

So, whether you’re wearing the denim-on-denim trend (yes, it is in fact a trend), or you’re still rocking the classic jeans and a tee… The variety of washes, fabrics, silhouettes and finishes allow for endless opportunities.

It’s no wonder the trend continues to be a day-to-day staple through the years and is suitable for just about every shape, gender and size.

WHY I BLOG

A few reasons why I blog and haven’t blogged… ;)

I’m back and I am breaking the silence!

I am so sorry for not blogging for a whole month. In my commitment to simplify things this year, I guess I literally could’t add any more things to my plate. Nonetheless, I am back with a plan and purpose!

During this past month: I went to Texas, got sick (like, had no voice kind of sick), spent some time with family, hosted and planned a women’s conference for over 150 people, was a guest speaker for a Podcast series, participated in Hispanicize 2015 (an annual event for Latino trendsetters and journalists), and attempted to maintain my relationships, home and chores in place… (Did I mention I am trying to simplify?)

Through it all, I realized how much I missed blogging, my breath of fresh air…

I don’t just see this whole blogging thing as a way to just journal my wardrobe or tell you what’s in style. In fact, though there are a lot of pictures of me it’s not really about me at all.

It’s about you! The readers. I’m here to hopefully inspire YOU!

I’m here to remind you that regular girls like me and YOU have a plan and a purpose. You don’t have to be 6 feet tall, toothpick-skinny with flawless complexion, to be confident in your own skin.

Just be you! Embrace your hair, your skin, your body type and be who YOU were made to be. Set goals and dream big dreams.

As much as I LOVE fashion, I don’t LIVE for fashion, nor do I let things own me.

Sometimes, I dress up, put on make-up and act poised and proper. While other times, I pull my hair back, wear comfy boyfriend jeans (that short girls “don’t look good in” and my husband hates) and skip around town, just because I can…

What do you do just because you can?

LEARNING TO LOVE

Regardless of how long I’ve known him, or how many years we’ve been together — my heart melts at the thought of calling him my beloved..

I believe this is our 8th year celebrating Valentine’s Day as a couple, we’ve been married for 6 years and dated for 2. Yet, every passing day, I still feel like I am learning to love him in a brand new way.

Choosing to love isn’t always easy. In fact, our natural tendency is to be proud and selfish…

However, learning to love – beyond just words – has been a fun journey. There are probably hundreds of learned habits that have helped our relationship be where it is today, and there are likely thousands of others we still need to learn.

Are you in love? Here are three ways to see if you too are learning to love…

Love becomes a choice and a call to action. The thrill of a first kiss, butterflies in your stomach – these are all very raw and real emotions in the early stages of a relationship. But as time passes, these “googly” feelings start to fade and real day-to-day life settles in. It is then that love becomes a choice, moving beyond just a phrase you say. True love becomes something you act on – even when you don’t “feel” like it. You can’t promise the feeling will be there each day, but you can promise to choose and act with love.
We comes before me. To love is to serve. In today’s culture, I realize the word itself can have a negative connotation, but it doesn’t have to. Serving the one you love means it is no longer just about you, but rather about us. By it’s very nature, love is a gift that puts into focus the unity of the relationship before the individual, placing the other person’s needs far above your own.
Love is costly. That doesn’t mean spending money on dinners, gifts and flowers. Relationships reveal facts about our character and identity – these highlight the areas where we fall short. A deep rooted relationship uses the hardships and conflicts to create new unique bonds that mend future hurdles. Unfortunately, we can’t have it both ways: Being the captain of your domain while trying to fulfill the longings of love, it’s just not going to happen. A meaningful relationship demands 100% commitment, it allows an individual to lose their personal desires in favor of true unity with the one you love.

So, while you’re on this journey, enjoy the little things. Celebrate one another, choose your battles and never stop dating.

Yep, Valentine’s Day is fast approaching and oh the sweetness it brings. Call me a sucker, but I love the cards, flowers, hearts, hugs and kisses that come with this day.

Sure, it’s easy to be a Debbie Downer and talk about how it’s a commercialized holiday created by Hallmark, and even call it a Single’s Awareness Day. Womp womp… I’d rather see the positive-side and embrace all the mushiness of the occasion. Who’s with me?

Plus, who says that it’s only a holiday for lovers? It is perfectly okay to treat your mom, bestie, or one of your gals that’s in need of a pick-me-up. Gather the ladies and have a Galentine’s Day, just enjoy it!

As far as gifts, you can always go the safe route and send her flowers, buy chocolate, or even get a card. But this year, may I suggest a hand-written love note and a little flair?

WINTER IN MIAMI

Let’s pretend it’s winter in Miami…

Bring out the boots, scarves, coats, hats and even gloves. Okay, so maybe that’s all a bit much for Miami. After all, the coldest it gets is like 65 degrees (on a good day). But I’m a little sad that Miami has only had 3 sporadic days of winter? Aren’t you?

Can I at least wear a coat? Just once? ;)

Let’s be honest, it’s not really winter in Miami, ever. I suppose that’s ok. I may complain about it today, but I guess that’s the draw and appeal to living here. Right? Instead of wearing long coats, I’ll wear a cropped one. And instead of layering, I’ll stick to my thigh-high boots and sweater dress.

I suppose it’s better than being stuck at home in a snow storm…

ONE WORD

I’ve been doing a little soul searching these days. (Yeah, I know bloggers aren’t really supposed to take time away and NOT post for too long. Ooops. Sorry, kind of?)

Well, this soul searching I speak of, it’s not the kind where you go to a psychic reading, or meditate on a blank space in hope of answers. It’s the kind where you read Scripture, pray for guidance and ask God to move – perhaps even speak.

I’ve been doing this by reading devotionals on a bible app called YouVersion.

During this time, I’ve come to realize that the appeal to a new year is just that – a new start. The option to wipe the slate clean and start over. We make resolutions to lose weight, pay off bills, start a new exercise regimen, and on, and on. But the reality is that those resolutions rarely become reality.

Hence this year, my resolution is just one word… Simplify.

I’m not too sure what that will look like throughout the year or in a long-term basis. What I do know, is just that one word – simplify!

Why am I sharing it with you?

1. It keeps me accountable and it gives you permission to ask me about it. If it has my attention, it probably has my focus.
2. To inspire you to find your word. Are you up for it?

Let’s narrow the focus in our lives and live our one word together! Deal? What”s yours?

In light of my resolution, today’s look is affordable and rather simple. After all, stylish can also mean affordable.
